Water Pipes

The water system for our new house is the third most important part of the house build for us. We want hot and cold water available in all the bathrooms and the kitchen, without using the small shower water heaters mounted on walls. To do this a very small room was built as an extension to the 2nd floor. This room is to house a 150 Liter immersion heater, with it's own on / off switch and timer.

This will then feed hot water as required. As there will normally be just 2 people residing in the house 150 liters of hot water should be sufficient as of course it will be mixed with cold water to make it bearable. I expect to set the hot water to 50-60 degrees centigrade. The interesting time will be when it is very hot outside and the cold water is warm, if that is a problem I will turn down the temperature of the hot water or even switch it off.

After all the internal walls were finished it was time for the water pipes to be installed. A team arrived and in a matter of a few days they embedded green water pipes in the walls along with the various connectors for sinks, the bath etc. They also put in the blue PVC pipes for the waste water and sewage, along with the septic tanks and a grease trap. They will return to fit the sinks etc when the house is nearly finished.

So far so good. They did a good job. The design of the house included U bends in the various waste water down pipes, and hatches to service them, much to the amazement of Somchai the village know it all who said they were not needed and were just an added expense. He could not understand that this house was somewhat of higher quality than the normal village residence, and that we did not want the smell from the septic tanks coming into the house. We stopped explaining what was what at that point.

This know it all attitude of non - tradesmen is one of the reasons why we wanted a professional company such as Moderm Tage House and Design to handle the build and not a bunch of out of work locals from the village.
