I was first licenced as a Radio Amateur when I was 15 years old and living in the UK. I passed the RAE (Radio Amateurs Examination) and Morse Test at the first attempt and received the call sign G4ANH. My best friend at school did the same and received the call sign G4AXH. We were the youngest full licence holders in the UK at that time.
This week I have started the search for a suitable HF transceiver to obtain when the house is nearly finished and I get a station licence. A daunting task. Things in the electronics / radio world have moved on a bit (to say the least) since I was last active.
Even though I will not be on the air for another 6 months or so I have already been planning the first antenna I will make.
The last time I actually made an antenna was over 35 years or so ago!
